4 Test Series, India vs South Africa Test series statistics

Ind_vs_SA_01India and South Africa has played eleven test series and the ensuing four test series would be the twelfth series between the two teams. This is the second occasion of two teams clashing in a four test series, the first one being the first ever series between the two teams in 1992-93.

This series was played in South Africa and hence the ensuing four test series is the first four test series between the two teams played in India. The ensuing four test series will be the seventh test series played between the two teams in India.

India has been dismissed for a total of less than 100 runs on two occasions against South Africa, while South Africa has been dismissed for a total of less than 100 runs against India only once. India’s lowest total in a completed innings against South Africa is its 66 at Durban in Dec 1996, while South Africa’s lowest total in a completed innings against India is its 84 at Johannesburg in Dec 1996.

Three Indian batsmen – SR Tendulkar {1741}, V Sehwag {1306} and R Dravid {1252} – have scored 1000 plus runs against South Africa. Two South African batsmen – JH Kallis {1734} and HM Amla {1207} have scored 1000 plus runs against India. SR Tendulkar’s 1741 runs is the highest aggregate by a batsman in India-South Africa test series.

As many as 25 centuries have been scored by Indian batsmen against South Africa. V Sehwag’s 319 at Chennai in Mar 2008 is the highest individual score by an Indian batsman against South Africa. SR Tendulkar has scored most centuries against South Africa. He has scored seven centuries. There are eleven occasion of an Indian batsman’s century in a losing cause against South Africa. SR Tendulkar has witnessed four of his centuries going in vain against South Africa.
